BS EN 19:1992 pdf free download.Marking of general purpose industrial valves.
Introduction
The identification of general purpose industrial valves requires that certain relevant information be given. Towards this end, the latter can form the subject of marking on the valves.
Some of these markings, referred to as mandatory, must be put on all the valves.
Other markings. referred to as supplementary, given in BS EN 19 may be called for by the standards appropriate to the individual types of valve.
1 Scope
BS EN 19 specifies the marking of general purpose industrial valves. It gives the description of the mandatory markings and of supplementary markings which may be necessary and states the manner of applying the markings. viz, on the body, on a flange, or on an identification plate. Markings on the body may be integral with the body or on a plate, distinct from the identification plate mentioned above and securely fixed to the body.
2 Specification
As the physical size of a valve governs the applicable practice, different requirements are specified for valves of small dimensions (smaller than DN 50) and for those of larger dimensions (DN 50 and above).
2.1 Explanatory notes
a) The table in 2.2 lists those items which are to be considered for inclusion in standards for individual types of valve.
b) Standards for individual types of valve will list mandatory and any supplementary markings and specify the position, viz, the body, flange or identification plate, in which they are to appear. Valves of DN 50 and above
i) Items I to 4 in the table are mandatory and must be marked on the body of the valve.
ii) Items 5 and 6 are mandatory only when so specified in the standard appropriate to the individual type of valve and are then to be marked on the body and flange respectively.
iii) Items 7 to 19 are supplementary unless specified otherwise in the standard appropriate to the individual type of valve and may, when marked, be on the body or on the identification plate.
Valves smallerthan DN5O
iv) The items which are mandatory will be defined in the standard appropriate to the individual type of valve which will specify whether they are to be marked on the body or on the identification plate.
v) Non-specified markings from the table may be marked on the body or on the identification plate.
c) A manufacturer, having complied with the above requirements and those of the standards appropriate to the individual types of valve, is not precluded from marking any item additionally in a place other than that specified, e.g. if a marking is to appear mandatorily on the body it may also be repeated on the identification plate.
