Cotton tape.
1. Scope
BS 6F 47 voecifles the requirements for cotton tapes for aerospace purposes in a range of widths.

2. General requirements
In addition to the requirements specified in clauses 3 to 7 of BS 6F 47 the relevant clauses of sections one and two of the latest edition of British Standard F 100 shall apply.
3. Yarn
The tape shall be manufactured from unsized cotton yarns of nominal counts as follows:
(a) warp: 2 ply yarn of resultant count 20 tex; (b) waft: 17 tax count singles.
4. Manufacture
The weave shall be plain.
Shuttleless constructions shall not be permitted.
5. FinIsh
6.1 General. The tape shall be supplied in one of the
following conditions, as specified in the contract or order:
(a) loomstate;
(b) scoured and rotproofed;
(c) scoured, dyed and rotproofed.
5.2 Dyeing. Thu tape colour shall be specified in the contract or order, if possible by reference to an official standard, e.g. BS 381 C, or otherwise by pattern. Either the tape or the yarns from which it is to be constructed shall be dyed.
6.3 Rotproofing. Where tape rotproofing is specified, the tape shall be treated with pentachlorophenyl laurate (PCPL) in accordance with 8.7 of BS 2087 : Part 1: 1981 and using the normal process, except that the upper limit for PCPL content shall be 3.5 %.
6. Construction and properties
Tapes whose widths are multIples of 5 mm shall comply with the requirements given in table 1.
7. Marking
The tape shall be Identified by the number of BS 6F 47, together with the width, and, where required, the colour and rotproofing requirements of clause 5. For example, 50 mm wide tape dyed blue-grey and rot-proofed shall be identified as British Standard 6F 47/50 mm/bluegrey/PCPL’.
